Lake Saint-Pierre — Quebec's freshwater fishing powerhouse

Lake Saint-Pierre is a widening of the St. Lawrence River between Trois-Rivières and Sorel-Tracy. One of Quebec's most important freshwater fishing ecosystems, classified a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Location and sectors

The lake spans roughly 35 km long × 12 km wide in its main part. It straddles fishing zones 7 (south) and 8 (north).

Northern pike

Throughout, especially in archipelago and grassy bays.

2026 quota (zones 7-8): 1 pike per day, min length 70 cm (raised from 56), line only, whole/gutted transport mandatory — see /quota-brochet. Season: 3rd Saturday of May

Yellow perch — 2026 MORATORIUM

Lake Saint-Pierre yellow perch has been under moratorium since 2012fishing banned. Extended to 2027. Release any incidental catch immediately.

Muskellunge

Mostly in shallow bays and the archipelago. Trophy species. Check zone-specific length limits.

Smallmouth and largemouth bass

Good population around rocky structures, river mouths, marinas. Opening 4th Saturday of June, general limit 6/day.

Striped bass

Present during spring (May-June) and fall (Sept-Oct) migrations. Length-limit species (50-65 cm authorized).

Lake sturgeon

In deep holes. Protected species — specific rules, minimum size.

South shore (zone 7)

  • Sorel-Tracy — Marina, public ramp, main channel access
