Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) is the king of Quebec freshwater fishing. Roughly 100 designated salmon rivers run across the province, mostly in the Gaspé Peninsula, Bas-Saint-Laurent, North Shore and Saguenay. Salmon rivers are managed by river-management organizations (often ZEC saumon or pourvoiries). Two access types per river:

Salmon rivers are fast and often deep. Quebec mandates wading staffs in some sectors. Wear PFD when crossing main channels. Watch for sudden current changes from hydro discharges (Cascapédia, Bonaventure are stable; rivers below dams can rise rapidly).
