Description

Lac Edja, in Blue Sea in the Vallée-de-la-Gatineau, is known for its turquoise water and unusual clarity. People fish, paddle and swim here — but access takes some planning, and two rules are non-negotiable. Washing your craft is mandatory BEFORE you reach the lake, motorized or not. The station sits behind the municipal office at 10 rue Principale. It is automated and open 24/7, no reservation needed. Wash for at least two minutes with the pressure gun, live well included, then print your coupon on the spot. That receipt must be displayed clearly on your dashboard once parked at the lake: without it the fine is $500 plus costs. Washing is free for non-motorized craft; a non-resident pays $25 for a motorized boat. Coupon in hand, count about nine minutes of driving to the public ramp at 34-36 chemin du Lac-Edja Ouest. The launch itself is on foot, down a twenty-metre dirt path from the parking area. Parking is the real bottleneck: it is free, but there are only four or five roadside spots, and illegal parking is ticketed quickly. Arrive early. If it is full, the CarpeDiem Aventures ecotourism site next door sometimes grants day visitors access to its facilities for about ten dollars per person. Two rules on the water. The shores are entirely private, including the island: you may navigate freely, but you may not land anywhere. And stay outside the yellow buoys — they mark Eurasian watermilfoil beds, an invasive plant that spreads from the smallest fragment cut by a paddle or a propeller.
