The bass fishing pillar

The soft worm (not to be confused with the earthworm) is a soft-plastic lure that imitates a worm. It's the #1 weapon for largemouth bass, but smallmouth and walleye eat it too.

Main variants

  • Senko / stick worm: no tail, "shimmy" fall action. Magic.
  • Ribbon / curly tail: undulating tail, more vibration
  • Straight tail / Trick worm: minimalist, pure finesse
  • Paddle tail: flat tail, medium vibration, fish-imitating

3 essential rigs

Texas rig

Bullet weight + EWG hook + worm. Weedless. Cast into the thickest cover.

Wacky rig

Hook through the middle of the worm. Falls in a "∩" shape. Deadly on smallmouth in finesse.

Drop shot

Weight at the bottom, hook 30–60 cm above. For deep water and lazy fish.

Colors that work

  • Green pumpkin: universal, clear or stained
  • Black/blue: stained water, cloudy day
  • Watermelon: clear water, sun
  • Junebug: a Quebec lake all-rounder
