The most useful thing in your tackle box

The round jig head isn't a lure by itself — it's the foundation you thread your soft plastic or live bait onto. The most-used component in tournament fishing.

Sizes

  • 1/16 oz: trout, perch, shallows
  • 1/8 oz: finesse bass, shallow walleye
  • 1/4 oz: walleye 3–6 m, bass in wind
  • 3/8 to 1/2 oz: deep walleye, lake trout jigging

Winning combos

  • Jig + soft worm: Texas-style for bass
  • Jig + live minnow: walleye killer
  • Jig + grub: trout and perch
  • Jig + tube: smallmouth bass on rocky bottom

Basic technique

Cast, let it sink (count seconds), then lift with small snaps of the rod (snap-snap-pause). The strike happens 90 % of the time on the drop — stay ready.
