The eternal classic

The wobbling spoon is one of the oldest and most effective lures. Its curved shape + metallic flash imitates a wounded baitfish. Iconic brands: Mepps Cyclops, Eppinger Daredevle, Williams Wabler.

Species

  • Brook trout: 1/8 to 1/4 oz spoons, silver or gold
  • Lake trout: bigger 1/2 to 1 oz models, trolling
  • Pike: big Daredevle red/white, casting or trolling
  • Atlantic salmon: smaller silver or pearl models

Techniques

  • Cast-and-retrieve slowly, let the spoon "fall-rise" once in a while. The pause is the strike.
  • Trolling: behind a downrigger for lake trout deep, or near surface near weeds for pike.
  • Vertical jigging: let it sink, lift, let it flutter back.
